Adapt by Tim Harford

June 27, 2011

I just finished reading Adapt, by Tim Harford, and it was excellent. You can buy it here or here. It is a great introduction to the cutting edge of Austrian and evolutionary economics. This is not a book that popularizes the state of knowledge of economics that is 10 years old. It is a book that takes the best new ideas out there and combines them in a fresh way to problems that are highly relevant for today’s political and economic environment.

It is very well written, with entertaining stories and clear and concise explainations of each idea. Tim Harford addresses many controversial (to economists) topics and does a good job explaining both sides and covering the advantages and disadvantages of the competing policy recommendations. If you enjoy Malcolm Gladwell, Stephen Dubner, Tyler Cowen, Jared Diamond, or Stephen Pinker, I would recommend this book.

Financial Times (Ed Glaeser)
